Manitobans Lead U16 Team Canada to Gold in Ball Hockey Seven Manitoba Players 07/01/19

Manitobans Lead U16 Team Canada to Gold in Ball Hockey Seven Manitoba Players and 2 Manitoba Staff were at the forefront of the gold medal win for Team Canada West at the World Junior Ball Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic on June 30, 2019.

Head Coach Paul Kastes of South Winnipeg, coached Connor Roullette, Dawson Pasternak, Tyler Teasdale, Owen Weihs, Nate Goodbranson, Rory Neill, and Cole Plowman for the week long World Championship. Braedon McKay of South Winnipeg served as the equipment manager for the team. The World Junior Ball Hockey Championships were held in Prerov and Zlin, Czech Republic wrapping up June 30, 2019. Canada had two representative teams at the Junior World Ball Hockey Championship. Canada West and Canada East played in the final to an 8-6 win for West. Canada West went undefeated in the tournament scoring 30 goals and allowing only 10. Manitobans dominated the individual awards as well with Dawson Pasternak winning the tournament MVP and Scoring Title, Connor Roulette won top forward, and Rory Neill was top defenceman. Cole Plowman had the best goals against average in the tournament.

The Manitoba representatives are all Western Hockey League draft picks as well.

Manitoba is at the forefront of international ball hockey with Angie Cerilli and Julianna Thomson recently winning gold at the Women’s Worlds and Remi Laurencelle winning Bronze at the Men’s Worlds.
