April 11, 2019 – Winnipeg, MB – KidSport Winnipeg and former Winnipeg Blue Bomber great Doug Brown have announced plans for the 10th annual KidSport Winnipeg football camp to take place on Saturday, May 11, 2019.
The camp is open to athletes in Manitoba who received funding in 2018 from KidSport in order to play football.
Brown, along with a number of current and retired CFL players will take kids through all the elements of a football combine, as well as position-specific fundamental drills and exercises.
“Time does fly when you’re having fun. 2019 represents the 10th consecutive year that the KidSport Football Camp has been in action, and to date, we’ve been privileged to have over 800 kids participate and take part in our skills and drills day,” said Brown.
“Over this past decade, countless numbers of volunteers as well as many former and current Winnipeg Blue Bombers have been instrumental in putting on this free camp, which has a lot of football experience behind it, and is intended to raise money and awareness so that KidSport can reduce financial barriers for kids to play sports. It is truly our pleasure to continue to be involved with such a great camp and message that benefits so many kids in our community.”
The camp is free to all participants and is also supported by Sexton Group Ltd., Aspire Dental, Axworthy Health & RecPlex, Boston Pizza, Save-On-Foods, Old Dutch Foods, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
“The 10th annual Doug Brown Football Camp is once again a great display of business, non-profit, and sport personalities and volunteers all working together for the greater good of kids in Winnipeg”, said Rick McGregor, Co-Chair, KidSport Winnipeg. “The generosity of our various corporate sponsors, along with the significant investment of time from Doug, and former and current Winnipeg Blue Bombers, are all important components that have contributed to the on-going success of this camp for Winnipeg kids, now celebrating our milestone 10th year. KidSport volunteers from the community provide the important final piece to allow us to provide an atmosphere where the kids at the camp can learn football skills, techniques, and most importantly, the value of hard work and teamwork from former pros in a safe and encouraging environment.”
The camp will take place at the Axworthy Health & RecPlex at the University of Winnipeg.
